Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Kevin Cutright, PhD is an Exercise Lead and Subject Matter Expert with Motive International, responsible for full exercise lifecycle support including the employment of Motive’s custom AI-powered exercise support software, complex & responsive scenarios, and agile exercise support.

In addition to his work with Motive, Kevin is a Visiting Senior Fellow with the Institute for AI Policy and Strategy and a Nonresident Senior Fellow with the Council on Strategic Risks, where he researches the use of advanced AI in national security, military policy and decision making.

Kevin served 28 years as a Field Artillery officer in the U.S. Army. He deployed twice to Iraq, once with a field artillery unit and once advising Iraqi border police, and twice to South Korea, first serving along the border deterring North Korea and, later, as Strategy and Plans Chief for U.S. Eighth Army. In addition to his combat arms and military planning assignments, much of Kevin’s time in the military focused on stability operations, network development, and coordination with Joint, interagency, and international partners, where he cultivated deep insights on differing organizational constructs of justice, empathy, and morality. Kevin’s military career culminated as an associate professor at the U.S. Military Academy (West Point), where he taught philosophy, ethics, and leadership.

Kevin is the author of the book The Empathetic Soldier, and has produced or been featured in numerous articles, presentations, and podcasts. He earned a PhD in philosophy from Saint Louis University, with dissertation work focused on civil-military relations and war-to-peace transitions. He also holds an MA in philosophy from Vanderbilt University, and a master’s degree in military art and science from the U.S. Army’s School of Advanced Military Studies..
